About us
Franziska Klein is the founder of New Roots. She is German and currently lives close to Munich.
Franziska speaks, writes and teaches about community, belonging and transitions, especially for expats and families on the move.
Her mission with New Roots is to make belonging tangible - through inspiration, structure, and shared experiences.
Franziska’s story
Franziska has been where you are. Living abroad, coming back home and moving again. She has experienced the expat life from many different perspectives and in various places around Europe.
So far, Franziska lived abroad as a child, a student, for work, and recently as a parent. Her expat adventures took her to Portugal (twice!), the UK and Sweden for 1-3 years each.
For her it is always a wonderful, but challenging experience. Each move meant starting over: making new friends, creating new routines, and finding your place in a new environment.
All these experiences gave her deep insights into different cultures and helped her develop and refine a skill set for building community in unfamiliar places. Moving to a new country can be an incredible opportunity for personal growth, cultural exploration, and connection – but it can also feel overwhelming and lonely. Belonging doesn’t happen automatically.
Over the years, Franziska built a rich toolkit for navigating transitions and creating meaningful connection. Now, she shares what she learned and supports others in making the most of their journey abroad.
Professional background
Franziska brings almost a decade of experience in education and event management in international contexts into this work.
At TU and LMU Munich, she organized study programs, workshops, conferences, and cultural festivals – from intimate gatherings to events with over 7,000 participants.
She led teaching and education projects with secondary school students in Germany, the UK and Sweden. Furthermore she created various kinds of learning content for adult education in the past.
Her expertise ranges from history and languages to guiding study trips across Europe, leading yoga classes, and developing various online courses for the German Ministry of Education.
Franziska is curious, enthusiastic, empathetic - and passionate about supporting people on their expat journeys. At the heart of all her work lies one goal: to empower others through meaningful learning and connection.
